Graduate Researcher - Cornish Lime
Cornish Lime are looking to recruit a science graduate to manage a project which will evaluate the feasibility of introducing a suitable sand/aggregate drying plant into the business.
Bodmin based Cornish Lime Ltd are a well-established family run business with significant experience and knowledge in the building sector. They manufacturer traditional (non-hydraulic lime putty) Lime and mortars for the restoration of traditionally constructed buildings, of solid wall construction. Other aspects of the business include the distribution of other lime products along with a range of breathable paints. They hold and distribute the widest range of sands and decorative aggregates in the region and they are becoming more involved with the green building sector.
Identify and research the markets for kiln dried sands and aggregates
Identify and research the options for drying (including energy from waste)
Manage the design and layout of the new site
Explore the screening/sieving aspect of the operation and see how it can be commercially exploited
Identify what local materials can be exploited to suit the market both locally and nationally
Seek out partners in the venture who can offer reciprocal arrangements
Nature of work undertaken:
As the successful graduate, you will gain experience of working on an exciting project which will be integral to the business's growth plans. Applying your University knowledge and skills you will be given an opportunity to work within a challenging role with a high degree of autonomy in an interesting area of operations. You will be looking for a long-term role and there will be a support package available through the UCP programme for training, development and mentoring.
Essential and desirable requirements and skills:
A degree level qualification is essential, and it would be advantageous if you could also offer:
A degree in Geology or Chemistry or other envrionmentally related subject.
Proactive, highly organised and able to work on own initiative.
Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
Accuracy and attention to detail
IT literate with good working knowledge of common software packages
Graduates must not have previously been supported in a UCP Graduate Placement programme*
Our ideal graduate would also have.
An awareness of minerals processing
Ability to speak a French or German language
A common sense and practically minded approach
A genuine interest in this area of work.
Full driving license
Ideally (but not necessarily) have graduated within the last 5 years and be unemployed or not fulfilling their graduate potential*
